#13

Del.icio.us seems like a great way of connecting with people with similar interests although when I tracked a few tags I didn't find any useful connections - the hit rate may be quite low unless you are after something very specific. I think it would be better as a research tool rather than a social interaction tool. Tagging could be more specific if it wasn't a single word tag although obviously words can be joined by a dash or underscore. I set up an account and tagged some sites but need to go back and spend more time on it.

I love that you can access your bookmarks from any computer - great appeal!

Rollyo

My first effort was fruitless as when I went to create or save it told me there were too many connections and it disconnected so I will have to try again........urgh! Anyway I've done one for searching for used cars as my husband is looking for a 1965 GTO Pontiac (perhaps he doesn't realise the cost of petrol) and I am hopeful that I might buy a new (secondhand) car this year. After I had completed mine I was trying to find it again and was amazed at how many car rolls existed.

This would be a useful tool for school projects, genealogy and various hobbyists to mention a few- it seems to achieve the same results as federated searching.

LibraryThing

While I have no need or wish to catalogue my books at home I love this tool for searching out new authors and finding similar authors to the ones that I enjoy. I have already jotted down some new ones to try - always on the lookout for new authors. It will also be useful on the Info Desk for assisting the public with ............who else writes like! Here's my link...

Week 5

Lots of fun with image generators - creativity no longer just for those with an artist bent. So much to look at and play with.

Week 4 RSS Feeds and Newsgroups

This is so easy and now I know what the various symbols mean I'll be looking out for more relevant sites. I've found a few on contemporary literature which is great for my own reading but also for recommending titles to our users.

At the moment I am having lots of fun with Foxtel IQ which we have just had installed at home. The best thing for me is the ease of recording a TV program - find it on the planner and hit the RECORD button. A bonus is that you can record 2 different shows at one time, whilst watching another. Next best thing is that you can "rewind" the TV program that is playing (to hear what was said when the kids are being too noisy or when you have to go to the loo!), and then you can watch it at a faster pace to catch up with the actual program schedule. Another thing is that I decided to record a show that I'd missed the start of and when I went to view it, the entire show had recorded - I have to test this on the movie channel next. Unfortunately I never seem to have the time to watch all the extra shows I am recording.

Have enjoyed myself playing around with some of these tools - don't know about their application for work purposes but maybe you'll see one turn up in a presentation one day. I have used Hockneyizer here which segments a photo and then randomly shuffles the separate pieces. Lots of fun! I forgot to tag it initially but somehow got back and edited the tag field. I am having trouble sending the photo from flickr to my blog. This message tells it all . ... "Sometimes web services can be a bit flaky "

Another attempt to upload a photo from Flickr directly to my blog - this is so easy when everything is going well but any hiccups such as the computer 'timing out' which happens heaps at home, means I am lost. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or if the computer is having a hissy???? Seem to have a problem with Quicktime.

Well I have been unsuccessful in uploading a photo from Flickr to my blog so instead I saved to My documents and tackled it that way. I will have another go, and failing that, will have to get some help!
